Dear Brothers and Sisters of Local 562;

The Company has recently posted a schedule of “PLI” meetings for all employees to attend before or after their shift.  PLI stands for “Performance Leadership Initiative”. The PLI team consists of Company and TWU representatives that are supposed to identify deficiencies in our work policies and procedures, as compared to other airlines. The TWU representatives are not elected members of the Local 562 Executive Board. The Local 562 representative is JFK Aircraft Maintenance  Crew Chief Roland Ruppert. The aim of the PLI is to improve worker productivity  through  non contractual changes in the way we do business.

                   In 2003 the TWU, along with the APA and the APFA granted unprecedented concessions to American Airlines in order to save the Company from bankruptcy. Although the Company has yet to show a profit, American Airlines recently announced a planned executive bonus payout totaling almost 80 million dollars. This bonus money will be given to senior management and executives of the Company. Because of this, the APA and APFA have withdrawn from the PLI process.

        These PLI meetings are voluntary, and you as an employee should judge for yourself  your need to attend.  Please contact a Local 562 Officer if you have any questions.

Fraternally,

The Executive Board of Local 562
